circa: Early 1900s
A charming marble top iron framed butcher's table, circa 1900. The delicate scrolling structure of the iron base combined with the lightly veined white Carrara marble top give the piece a very airy feel. Black wrought iron legs bow in from the top, cinching in at the center, and then sweep out to form wide scrolls at the feet. Brass discs punctuate the scrolls and the ends of one stretcher. The longest stretcher is adorned at each end with brass lettuce cups, both with a brass ball at its heart, and three separate brass balls along its length. Another lettuce cup is situated at the center of the shorter stretcher. As a commercial piece, it is set up on iron casters, so it may be moved about with more ease. This piece would make a great pastry table, desk or dining table.
Condition: Light scratches on top, some nicks at the edges and one sizable notch. Some wear and light rust on the iron, as well as slight variations of color on the brass, all typical for age and use.
