An ornate Italian brass coffee table in the Rococo style with a rich onyx top, circa 1970. The elaborate brass base features a pierced gallery apron decorated with scrolls and acanthus motif. Scrolled feet are capped with acanthus detail and finished with snail ends. Supporting the top are four cherubim bearing torches. The stretcher connecting them is adorned with extensive foliate scrolls set over a delicately textured background. Warm-toned and loaded with visual textures, the onyx top is a refreshing change from the typical marble top. Various ocher colors are broken up by pools of creamy white and pops of ruddy pink, all raked by dark branching veins.
Condition: Good vintage condition. A little verdigris on the brass base. Some nicks along the edge of the onyx top, and at three corners. The stone was previously buffed and has some light marks that are visible from certain angles.
