French Cabinet Maker's Workbench in Beechwood, 1950s
A fabulous working etabli, or carpenter's workbench constructed from beechwood, circa 1950. This piece was hand built by the cabinet maker who used it and bears his branded initials, "J.G". The bulk is made of golden toned beechwood, a replaced pine plank along the back creates a slot for tool storage, and the shelf on the bottom is finished with pine boards. A large steel clamp is built into the front left leg. The front right corner has steel reinforcing and a crank clamp with wooden handle. Just behind the left side clamp is a steel chain and stopper. One drawer is built in under the table against the right leg, a metal ring pull and interior space of 13.25" wide, 16" long and 4" deep. Four large holes are drilled into the right leg for large tool storage, as well as holes along the front edge of the bench. Decades of use have left the bench with copious marks and cuts, just the type you want to see on a working piece. The beautiful patina further compliments the piece. The table top itself measures 20.5" deep by 78.75" long. Full measurements are 32" high, 25.75" deep, 83.5" wide. Would make a beautiful console table or workbench.
