A set of four urbane Neoclassical style varnished ebony chairs from designer Maurice Hirsch, circa 1950s. Glossy black varnish coats the wood frame. The back flares out and back gently, ending in scrolled corners and connected by a single slat at top, four sabre legs. Wide incised lines are carved along the edges of the legs, back and inset into the top slats, all gilt to highlight the elegant lines of the chairs. Newly upholstered in neutral beige fabric with double welt edging. Seat height is 18.5".
Condition: Good, sturdy condition. Some dings on the feet and a few light scratches on wood, minor to moderate gilt loss, appropriate to age and use. New upholstery.
