A pious Louis Philippe prie dieu, prayer chair, in walnut and red velvet, circa mid 1800s. The chair's focal point is a carved back piece displaying the cross after Christ's removal, the spear and ladder are propped up against it. Molded frame around the back piece, gracefully slanted back legs and a subtly scalloped apron at the front with further molding, all with a beautiful patina. Rich red velvet covers the curved front kneeler seat and the elbow or book rest at the top, both are finished with antique nailhead trim. Floor to seat measurements are 9.5" at the front and 12" at the back.
Condition: Minor aging on wood, aged velvet. Some rust present on the nailhead.
