A prie dieu chair, prayer kneeler, in ebonized pearwood with red velvet upholstery from the period of Napoleon III, circa 1870. The frame features elaborate baluster turning with a detailed centerpiece of a relief carved cross above a flourished trefoil. The cross has scrolled corners and a textured center. Turned baluster front feet match the frame, the square back legs have a subtle curve. Rich red velvet upholstery is secured with antique nailheads along the top and bottom. A dignified and beautiful piece. Floor to seat measures 8" in front.
Condition: Some nicks on the feet and base, a few others elsewhere on the frame. A few light spots on the upholstery.
