A pair of Louis XVI style beechwood and rush armchairs, circa 1940s. In typical Provençal style, the armrests are set back on the seat and the backs are fairly open, with simply shaped slats. Curved armrests sit on turned and fluted supports. Scalloped aprons feature relief carved foliate garlands and a large central flower, as well as carved scrolls along the edge. Rosettes grace the die joints, which sit on turned and fluted legs. The stretchers are also turned, with the front stretcher being fluted in addition. All legs sit on baluster feet and the backs are capped with acorn shaped finials.

The rush seats are low, being 14" from the ground and topped with a 2" cushion and are in great condition. The custom fitted cushion is a large plaid in coral, red and ocher tones, offset by blue and green. Coral-red piping traces the profile on top and bottom, zipper located on the underside.

Condition: Very good vintage condition. Two shallow scratches on the ladder back slats and some nicks on the outer corners of the die joints, worn fairly smooth with age.
