A comely walnut bookcase in the Louis XIII style, circa 1880. Either side is graced by an elegant barley twist with a corinthian capital at the top. Two drawers with black iron drop handles sit over a heavily carved molded spreading plinth. The drawer space is 18" wide, 13.25" long and 3" deep. Four relief carved rosettes anchor the corners of the piece. Beveled glass panel doors with original black iron key plates, original cremaillere lock with replaced key. Three adjustable oak shelves, each with carved molding faces. The paneled sides have tasteful inset carving. The whole piece sits atop bun feet. Good storage, but not overwhelming in size, this is a wonderful antique piece.
Condition: Some slight dings here and there, normal for its age. One crack in the front of the molded spreading plinth, tightly joined with consistent carved detail. No keys available for the 2 bottom drawers.
