A marvelous French walnut bakery scale with zinc top and brass plateaux, from the early 1900s. Both decorative and functional, this scale has a gorgeous patina with one hundred years of nicks and bumps from its previous life in retail. Each side has a thin inlay of fruitwood. A zinc top caps the wooden base. Two broad brass plateaux feature the marks of their use, as well as each inspection punch from its time as regulated piece of equipment. A beautiful brass plaque surrounds the glass encased leveler, emblazoned with the maker's name, Maison Beranger from La Mulatiere, where the factory is still running today.
Condition: Very good. Some bumps and nicks to the wood, wear on the zinc and brass, all typical for its age and use.
