Louis XV Style Walnut Chest and Secretaire, 1920s
A Louis XV style chest in walnut with a roll out collapsible secretaire, circa 1920. The top two drawers are false, covering the space where the secretaire is nestled when closed. Pulling the back edge up and over rolls out the little cabinet with four small drawers and two open shelves. The underside of the top forms the writing surface with embossed leather. All three lower drawers are functional, measuring 18.25" wide, 9.5" long and 3" deep. Nouveau style foliate brass handles and decorative escutcheons grace all five drawer fronts. Shapely brass sabots adorn the curved front legs. Brass chains connect the top to the secretaire and there are tiny brass pull knobs on its drawers. The paneled sides are molded with a gentle arch. For a small profile piece, it packs a lot of charm and functionality.
Condition: Good condition. Some age marks and dings, the molding at center front has a couple wear spots, and there is a small veneer chip on the hinge point at top.
